USS Jouett (DD-396)-- Part 4: Invasion of Normandy and Algiers

In March 1944, the Jouett returned to Charleston and then engaged in training operations in Casco Bay, Maine, before sailing to England in convoy on 16 May 1944.  There she joined a Reserve Fire Support Group for the invasion of France before arriving off France on June 8, escorting coastal steamers with support troops on board.

She repelled an air attack that day. and until June 21, screened British heavy cruisers during shore bombardment and provided anti-submarine screen for the Omaha Beach transport area.  With the second front established, the Jouett escorted convoys to and from  the Firth of Clyde  until 12 July when she sailed with convoy to Algieria.
