My Cooter's History Blog has become about 80% World War II anyway, so I figured to start a blog specific to it, especially since we're commemorating its 70th anniversary and we are quickly losing this "Greatest Generation." The quote is taken from Pearl Harbor survivor Frank Curre, who was on the USS Tennessee that day. He died Dec. 7, 2011, seventy years to the day. His photo is below at right.

The War Production Board Turns Down DeKalb in 1942: "All Strategic Materials for Military Purposes"
From the September 27, 2017, MidWeek "Looking Back."
1942, 75 Years Ago.
"The application by the city of DeKalb for permission to purchase an electric heater with thermostat control to be used in heating the water pumping station on Pearl Street has been refused by the War Production Board.
"It gives as the reason 'Due to extreme acute situation in critical materials and great and urgent need of them to equip our armed forces, we find it necessary to conserve all strategic materials for military purposes. All other activities must be subordinated to this need'."
