Japanese aircraft carrier IJN Hosho becomes the first purpose-built aircraft carrier commissioned in the world. Set the stage for a certain latter event in 1941, didn't it.

The USS North Carolina (BB-55) My all-time favorite warship. As an elementary school student in North Carolina, I donated nickels and dimes to save this ship back in the early sixties.
